The Challenge


  • Create the most compelling physical performance interface for elite football players and their coaches.

  • Focus on one or more of the visualisation modules. (Load Demand, Injury, Physical Development, Biography, Recovery, External Factors)

  • Download our mock dataset or use your own.

  • Use a visualisation tool of your choosing!

  • Submit your work files along with a written description or short video walk-through highlighting key features and functionality.

What Should Be Visualised?


Entries must focus on one or more of the below vizathon modules.

Load Demand

E.g Games & matches played, season availability, training sessions and load.

Injury History

E.g Current injury status, injury risk category, most recent injury.

Physical Development

E.g Physical test capabilities, development plans, strength & conditioning logs, areas of priority.

Biography

E.g Players details such as photo, nationality, position, age, team, league.

Recovery

E.g Nutrition, performance behaviour adherence, sleep, wellness.

External Factors

E.g Outside influences that may impact an individual's performance. Environmental, dynamics, cohesion, motivation.

Some data has been made available by CFC to inspire your vizathon entry.

  • The data provided acts as a reference, and we welcome individuals to supplement it through other data retrieval methods or creating mock data.

  • The data supplied by CFC comes with a data guide to help individuals understand the core metrics.

  • Any supplementary data used should be based on the modules outlined above, with the data sources referenced in the project.

  • Dataset Overview
    Dataset Name Dataset Description
    GPS GPS performance metrics track movement demands, including speed, distance, and acceleration, to assess workload and physical output. This dataset contains simulated data for 1 player.
    Physical Capability Physical Capability is measured using a battery of tests which measure different qualities and expressions of force.
    Recovery Status Recovery status is measured using several tests and metrics to inform recovery strategies throughout the season. This dataset contains simulated data for 1 player.
    Individual Priority Areas Individual priority areas are identified and reviewed by the player and Performance Support Team.
    This is an opportunity to showcase your creativity, technical expertise, and user-centric design thinking while contributing to an impactful real-world application in professional sports.

    £500 for the best interface. Best combination of all data modules and categories.
    £200 for the best component or module. E.g Match history, bio section, injury selection.
    £200 for the best positive behavioural nudge. Encourages positive actions. Where the data provokes impact from the insight.
    £200 for the most functional design. An experience that balances cross platform (inc mobile) optimisation with new creativity.

    Judging Criteria

    Judging Criteria


    Submissions will be evaluated by an expert panel from professional football, sports science, and the data visualization communities. Entries will be judged equally between 5 unique categories, giving each category a scoring rating of 1-5, by each judge. Feedback is not shared publicly.

    Engagement & Clarity (20%) Does the interface capture attention and communicate key information effortlessly?
    Actionability (20%) Does it enable players and coaches to make quick, informed decisions?
    Intuitiveness (20%) Is the navigation and layout intuitive and easy to use?
    Visual Appeal (20%) Is the design aesthetically pleasing and professional?
    Innovation (20%) Does the solution introduce novel ways of presenting data?

    • Visuals can be created using any visualisation software of the individuals choosing. For example R, Power BI, Tableau, Streamlit, Python, Figma, Sketch, or even a wireframe!

    • Entries must focus on one or more of the visualisation modules outlined in the challenge section. (Load Demand, Injury, Physical Development, Biography, Recovery, External Factors)

    • Entrants can be from anywhere around the world, however please read the terms and conditions in regard to allocation of prize money for specific countries.

    • Entries must be submitted using the submissions form, prior to the submission end date.
